As a chiropractor, getting rid of someone's pain is usually the easiest part of care, even though many people find it the most important. If you just use your chiropractor for getting rid of pain, you are missing out on enormous benefits. Also, the chance of your condition recurring are very high because you will most likely continue to do whatever got you injured in the first place. Once your pain is resolved, you then move into the next phase of care, which is usually called corrective or restorative care.
During the corrective care phase, your frequency of visits should decrease, but your work at home may increase. This may include nutrition, postural exercises, changing your sleeping position, drinking more water, lifting in a more correct manner, etc. These at home instructions are dependent on your condition and your primary problem area. These are designed to help you get better, faster.
Even after we get you out of pain, you may have occasional times where you experience symptoms. This is completely normal and you shouldn't be discouraged because of it. These flare ups can also occur when you first start doing the exercises as well because we're stretching and strengthening muscles that haven't been worked in a long time. The corrective care phase may last anywhere from a few months to a few years depending on the severity of your problem and how long that you have suffered with this condition.
