What does my auto insurance cover?
The most important thing to remember is that it doesn't matter whether or not the accident was your fault. If you are injured, your insurance company has the responsibility of paying your medical bills until you return to the state you were in before your auto accident occurred.
There are two different claims that will occur when you are in involved in an auto accident. The first, is your auto claim. This is the claim that gets filed for any damage that occurred to your car. Filing an auto claim may raise your premiums.
The secondary claim that you will file is a medical claim. To do this, you call your insurance company and let them know that you were injured in an accident, and let them know how you're feeling. If you've already picked a specialist that you're going to see for your injuries, such as a chiropractor or a physical therapist, let them know that. They will give you a Claim # (which is what the specialist will use to send all of your medical bills to) and assign you someone called an "adjustor." Your adjustor is the go-to person for any questions you have regarding your insurance and the coverage you have for your medical needs. Your auto insurance will cover everything at 100% until you are deemed fully recovered.
